Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Store Front and Building Signs

_BW_BW_2_BW_1

These photos were taken in Normandy when I was in search for old stores/cafés. I had hoped to find more than I did, but here are three of them. More responses to Cee’s challenge can be found, when clicking on the image below.

Gum Bichromate Process

Last December, I attended a workshop at Huis Marseille in Amsterdam, during which we prepared prints through historical photographic techniques, involving chemicals. One of the results is the print below. It was very interesting to do and I really liked the outcome. The digital photo that was the basis for this print can be seen in this post. This one is called a gum print. Others we did were a tricolor print and a cyanotype.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Fences and Gates

DSC_0241_1

While in Normandy, France, in October this year, I took many photos of fences and gates. I could have taken photos of the famous Utah and Omaha beaches, the war monuments or the cemeteries, but I preferred a series of fences to express the vastness and loneliness in the countryside.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Waiting

On 21 August this year I was in New York and could go to Central Park to see the eclipse. I did not have a pair of special glasses, so I concentrated on other people who were also watching. It seems a little alienating, all of us looking up in the sky. Luckily we saw something, it was not all covered by clouds and worth the wait! For more responses to this challenge, have a look here.

Dog training nights in The Hague

Small, midsize and big dogs and their bosses all get together to be trained an hour a week to ensure well-behaving dogs. Your little puppy might be the sweetest thing but if not well educated it may rule the house before you know it. They learn to sit, lie down and walk right next to you. And you learn that no dog will be well-behaved if you are not as consistent as you can be with your pet friend. It was really nice to see how eager the dogs were to do as told, even if things didn’t always go right. And after a number of weeks, the dog (and of course its owner) receives a certificate and moves on to the next training. A bit of patience is required, because each dog takes its turn and receives a lot of individual attention. Until the next lesson, there is a lot of repeating the tricks you were taught.
